Wendy Dolan trained in Art and Textiles while studying for a B.Ed Degree in Brighton. Following a Diploma in Creative Stitched Textiles a few years later, Wendy began to exhibit widely and sell her work through Craft Shows and Exhibitions. Wendy is a textile artist living in Sussex. She uses fabrics, thread and stitch to create original textured designs. Wendy says, "I use a combination of techniques in my stitched textile pictures and hangings. Carefully selected fabrics are pieced, patched and stitched together, creating textured backgrounds. Light fast pigment dyes are then applied using a variety of painting and printing techniques. Surface texture is built up and developed, by applying more fabrics, yarns and embellishing the surface with machine and hand stitchery. The stitching emphasises the detail and further enriches the textured surface. Designs are developed into pictures and hangings in various sizes. Living close to the South Downs provides a continuous source of inspiration for my stitched textile designs. Architecture is also very influential and often inspired by my travels. Fish, Natural Forms, Ancient Relics, and Still Life have all been themes which have featured in my work."
